Statement of Support
"The Capital Area Friends of Transit (CAFT) is a non-partisan alliance of organizations, civic leaders, and citizens who believe that Wake County and the region will be stronger economically and be a better place to live when we have a thoroughly connected, multi-modal transit system.
CAFT believes transit shapes growth and is a catalyst for job creation, economic development, improved public health, environmental protection, and creating mixed-use, walkable/bikeable communities. Transit expands transportation choice and access for all.
Our system should employ whatever transit technologies match our strategies for local and regional growth planning and could include expanded bus service, bus-rapid transit (BRT), streetcars, commuter rail, and light rail.
To pay for the above comprehensive local and regional service, CAFT supports a mix of local, state and federal resources. Specifically, CAFT supports the proposed one-half cent sales tax to establish a dedicated local source of funding. We support holding a referendum so that citizens may vote on this, and we will encourage the public to support it."
